Property History
This 1915 Craftsman home was built by Mr. C.B. Kelley, a local businessman and co-owner of the Hyatt hotel in downtown Ellijay (current location of the Gilmer Court House on the town square). Kelley lost the home during the great depression and Dr. N.C. Goss and Mrs. Carrie Goss, purchased the home. They were the first to own a car in Ellijay and Carrie used the home as a boarding house for teachers and students. The third owners were Dow Hamrick, an executive at the Bank of Ellijay, and his wife Ruth, a teacher and librarian. Ruth Hamrick’s niece, Mary Patterson, inherited the home when Ruth died. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Turner purchased the home in 1999 and lovingly restored it adding three decks, a screened porch, bottle house and garage. Keith and Karen Kreager purchased the home in 2018, adding three guest bathrooms and redecorating for the opening of the Ellijay River House Bed & Breakfast on July 4th, 2019.
